It runs in a north-south direction starting from North Main Street and crosses East Platt Street, West Platt Street, East Pleasant Street, West Pleasant Street, East Maple Street, West Maple Street, East Locust Street, West Locust Street, East Judson Street, East Summit Street and West Summit Street. South Main Street is also known as Business Rte 61. South Main Street also exists in Janesville, Protivin, Tabor, Lenox and Weldon.
