It runs in a northeast-southwest direction starting from West Main Street and crosses Corydon Pike, Scott Street, Jackson Street, Poplar Street, Budd Road, Old River Road, Two Mile Lane, Gap Hollow Road, Five Mile Lane and Seven Mile Lane. It connects New Albany and Floyd County. This street is part of the highway "111" as well as the Hiking trail "ADT - Indiana (South) - H - Seg 3". River Road also exists in Owen County, Clay County, Jennings County, Shelby County and Johnson County.
