It runs in an east-west direction starting from Murphy Road and crosses Patton Road, Wayah Road, Kiser Road, Mill Creek Road, Chestnut Hill Drive, Ben Lenoir Road, West Coventry Drive, Maclor Forest Road, Pat Rogers Road, Westwood Drive and State Road 1440. It connects Macon County and Franklin. Old Murphy Road is also known as State Road 1442.
