It runs in an east-west direction starting from South Jefferson Street and crosses Fayette Street, Madison Place, South Street Clair Street, South Washington Street, Church Street and Bryan's Alley and ends at South Lewis Street. Federal Street also exists in Petersburg, Waynesboro, Lynchburg, Fauquier County and Giles County.
