It runs in a northeast-southwest direction starting from Cariboo Highway and crosses MacKenzie Avenue South, Bagshaw Road, Lakeside Drive South, Fairview Drive, Terra Ridge, Dog Creek Road and Oliver Street. Alexander MacKenzie Highway is also known as Chilcotin Highway. This road is part of the long-distance road "20". Alexander MacKenzie Highway also exists in Area E (South Lakeside/Dog Creek) and Area J (West Chilcotin).
